What is your best 1812 Overture story?
I have played the “1812 Overture” countless times. One of the last times that I played it was in a college gymnasium. The music department of the college borrowed the starting cannon from the local yacht club. It used an 8-gauge shotgun shell blank. When it came time for the cannon, this thing went off, and it made me jump out of my chair by at least 3 or 4 inches… maybe more.
There are two other stories that I know of. Both took place in a major theater. One involve ping-pong balls, and the other involved pillow feathers being released from the scaffolding, through ceiling panels that were high above the orchestra seats.

I played a PDQ Bach 1712 overture where the cannon fire was an amplified fart pillow (whoopee cushion)..
