Is the flock to college education like the gold rush?

It’s apparent that diminishing jobs = competition, and everybody feels the need to get more education. Online colleges are booming. Traditional colleges are expanding their cirriculum to include fast track degrees for returning students. Sounds good until one realizes that in the California gold rush, the people that made out the best were the stores that sold picks and shovels, along with Levi Strauss, who invented bluejeans to meet the demand of the miners.
Also, after everybody lost their shirt in the 1929 stock market crash a book was published– Where are the Customers Yachts– which pointed to the fact that the only people who got rich from that mania were the stock brokers and bankers. Is today’s educational situation different? Where are all the grads going to find work?

college is treated like a buffer from low pay. it is a gold rush but for the colleges at the moment. work will depend on individual effort after college. the jobs will be there but will be available to those qualified.
